Leaving the University? Don't lose your OneDrive content

As you prepare to leave the University, it's a good time to ensure that you don't lose any important documents stored in your Nexus365 OneDrive for Business.

Remember, your data is your responsibility, and it's up to you to ensure that you don't leave any critical content in your OneDrive when you leave. This includes items you've shared with others, as these will no longer be accessible after your OneDrive is deleted, possibly leaving your colleagues without access to important documents.

Act now to keep your OneDrive content safe

The best thing you can do is spend a little time moving your OneDrive content to your personal storage before you leave. This could be on your own computer, or another hosted service.

It’s always best to avoid using OneDrive for storing business-critical documents, but if you have done this, please move them to a secure shared environment such as Microsoft Teams or SharePoint so your colleagues can access them after you have left and your OneDrive has been deleted.

Important notes

  • OneDrives are not backed up and there is no long-term retention of them - once your site is permanently deleted, it is gone for good.
  • There has been a significant increase in people realising too late that they need a vital document from their OneDrive after it has been deleted. This can lead to stressful situations for everyone involved. Act now to keep your data safe and accessible.
  • Before you leave the University, please ensure that you remove your important personal files.
  • Any 'shares' of content will also be disabled when your OneDrive is deleted so you should also ensure that items you have shared with others (or have had shared with you) are properly transferred from OneDrive to those users if they require continued access.
